What is Invisalign® Teen?
Invisalign® Teen is an effective orthodontic treatment that goes virtually unnoticed but geared specifically for teens (at least the age of 12). While some teens do not mind wearing traditional braces, others may be very self-conscious about their appearance, specifically older teens. Additionally, this treatment allows teens to eat what they want, creates less chance for breakage and doesn’t interfere with regular sporting activities (like wearing a mouthguard). Invisalign® Teen also creates less of a chance for cavities and irritations of the mouth. With Invisalign® Teen, the correction of their misaligned teeth occurs in a subtler manner and without much disruption from day to day life.
How Much Does Invisalign® Teen Cost in Virginia Beach?
The cost of Invisalign® Teen is different with each patient based on the length of the treatment plan and how many aligners are needed. We discuss the cost with each patient or their parents as well as our payment and financing options. We offer in-house financing to those who qualify as well as financing through CareCredit®. If you have dental insurance, we can help you determine if your plan offers orthodontic coverage and work to reduce your out-of-pocket costs. We offer orthodontic treatment options for just $99 down and as little as $200 a month.
How Does Invisalign® Teen Work?
Just like any patient using this treatment, Invisalign® Teen uses clear aligner trays made from a proprietary PBA-free material that gently and gradually shift teeth into their correct position. Once the decision has been made to use Invisalign®, our orthodontists use digital scans of the mouth and 3-D images to create customized, clear orthodontic aligners and map out the movement of the teeth with each set of aligners. Each set of aligner trays are worn for one to two weeks after which they are swapped out for the next set. About every six to eight weeks, the orthodontist sees the patient to evaluate the progress and receive a new group of aligners.
Teens wear the clear aligner trays about 20-22 hours a day and only remove them to eat and drink, and of course, to brush and floss. The entire treatment process varies with each patient as does the treatment time, although it is often quicker than that of traditional braces.
Once the treatment is complete, a specially made retainer is worn in the same manner as the aligner trays to ensure the newly straightened teeth stay in the correct position. Over time, the retainers are worn less and less until patients only wear them at night.
Can All Teens Wear Invisalign®?
Invisalign® Teen is designed for teens with mild to moderate issues, whereas more severe orthodontic cases require other types of braces. Our orthodontists evaluate each patient to determine if Invisalign® Teen is an option. It is also important to understand that Invisalign® Teen requires a lot of responsibility, since the burden is on the patient to remember to wear the aligners and not accidentally throw them away after eating.
How Do I Care for My Invisalign® Teen Aligner Trays?
Invisalign® Teen aligner trays may be gently brushed with warm water and a toothbrush each day when taking care of your teeth. There is also an Invisalign® cleaning system available for purchase if you would like to take care of them that way.
