Get a New Smile This New Year in Virginia Beach

Invisalign in Virginia Beach, VAGetting orthodontic treatment (braces or Invisalign®) can feel like an overwhelming process, but we promise it’s worth your smile in the end. Treat yourself this New Year with a brand new smile that will leave you feeling more confident than ever before. Here’s a step-by-step guide to getting you the smile you deserve.

Your Consultation

Before you even make your appointment to get yourself braces, you’re going to make a consultation appointment with your orthodontist. This gives them the chance to get to know you and your mouth’s condition before giving you a customized treatment plan, like whether you’ll need traditional braces or Invisalign®. Your orthodontist will also go over payment plans with you to make sure you’re as comfortable as possible when getting your new braces.

Before Your Treatment

Your dentist and your orthodontist work hand-in-hand in bringing you your brand new smile. Before getting your braces put on, you’ll want to go to your dentist to get a professional cleaning. If you do need other treatments as well, such as fillings or crowns, your orthodontist will typically recommend you get those resolved before putting your braces on as well.

Getting Your Braces

In your first visit, you’ll get x-rays done of your mouth in preparation for your braces. Your orthodontist may also take pictures of your teeth as well. You’ll also have a 3D scan made of your teeth before anything actually gets put on them. Your following appointment, you’ll be ready for your actual braces.

Don’t forget to brush and floss really well before getting your braces on. The procedure itself is painless for most people and typically takes about one hour to complete. The orthodontist will keep your mouth and teeth very dry while they put on the braces with a special adhesive. Finally, your orthodontist will run a wire through your braces.

Following Up

You’ll have follow-up appointments with your orthodontist to get your braces adjusted once every six to eight. These adjustments go much faster than getting your braces on in the first place and typically only take 20 minutes to complete. Your orthodontist will tighten wires and swap out old ligature bands for new ones. These regular visits ensure that you’re getting your new smile as quickly and efficiently as possible.

Your Last Appointment

You’ve spent time at the orthodontist every few weeks for the past 18 months or so, and you finally did it! Your braces are ready to come off. You may be nervous and excited all at the same time, but don’t worry. You won’t have to wait long to reveal your new smile. Taking your braces off typically takes just 15 minutes! Don’t forget: you will have to wear a retainer regularly to help your teeth stay in their brand new positions. This is just to make sure your smile stays as perfect as possible.
